Avesta Triphala
Standardized Triphala, 50% tannins

The Science of Triphala:
The digestive benefits of Triphala (Terminalia bellerica, Terminalia chebula and Phyllanthus emblica) may be due to:
- Binding to a digestive hormone linked with occasional gastrointestinal upset
- Increasing bile acid excretion, and helping to maintain cholesterol levels already within the normal range.
- Scavenging free radicals (antioxidant activity)

Dosha Guide? In Ayurveda there are seven basic body constitutions resulting from the predominance of one or more energetic influences or Doshas. The Doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, influence physical, mental and spiritual health. Everyone is considered to be a unique combination of these three body influences. Your natural Doshic state of balance is called Prakruti. Triphala has been traditionally used for digestion, strengthening and rejuvenating tissues and helping to balance the Doshas.

Stinging Nettle root has anti-inflammatory activity and is used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia. Its activity is different than many other popular "prostate" herbs as it inhibits aromatase, preventing conversion of cholesterol into hormones in the prostate. Urtica, combined with Saw Palmetto, Collinsonia, and White Sage, is vastly more effective than any one of these alone.

One in six men in this country may experience prostate health issues. One out of 2 over age 60 will get BPH, or benign prostatic hypertrophy. These two factors alone signal the need for ways to reduce men's risk of developing disease. Luckily, scientists have identified certain nutrients found in nature, as well as common micronutrients, which may play a role in prostate health. Our formula combines these well-researched ingredients in amounts known to benefit prostate health. Pumpkin seed oil, Saw Palmetto, Nettle and Pygeum contain natural DHT blockers and phytosterols. DHT is a metabolite of testosterone, which may provoke the enlargement of the prostate.

The gentle freeze-drying technique used preserves the natural constituents present in our organic Cranberries to resemble the form used in clinical studies.

Cranberry, a small evergreen shrub, grows in damp bogs from Alaska to Oregon, and on the eastern coastline. Cranberries have been consumed for their tangy, refreshing taste, and naturally contain minerals and the antioxidant vitamins A and C. They are rich in antioxidant flavonoids (anthocyanidins) to protect your body from free radicals. Historically, Native Americans used Cranberries as food and for health benefits, and in the early 1800's German scientists began researching its effect on urinary tract function.

Freeze-drying these berries helps to maintain and preserve the valuable constituents found in the fresh berries.

This organic blend of the two most popular Echinacea species (Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustifolia) is carefully grown on our certified organic farm. The herbs are harvested when they are most potent, and processed immediately to retain their beneficial constituents.

Echinacea was used by many Native American populations throughout the United States. This widespread use was adopted by the Eclectic physicians in the U.S. and its use was documented in medical texts until 1947. A German pharmaceutical manufacturer imported Echinacea purpurea to Germany in the 1930's, and since then, German and American scientists have been researching the clinical usefulness of the herb with an emphasis on supporting the immune system. This herb is popular both in Europe and in the US.

Since the era of the Eclectics, herbalists have known that all good quality Echinacea products cause a mild tingling sensation in the mouth. This is due to the alkylamides, which are recognized for their biological effect on the immune system.

As a result of many clinical trials that were done in the 1990's, Echinacea sales account for approximately 10% of the dietary supplement market. Many clinical trials are still being conducted today.

Warnings & Disclaimers:

Our organic Goldenseal is harvested at its peak potency from the fertile volcanic soils of our certified organic farm.

Goldenseal is another popular herb among the Native Americans that evolved to become an official herbal remedy in the United States Pharmacopeia. It has traditionally been referred to as "King of the Mucous Membranes," as it was known to help regulate secretions of the mucous membranes.

Goldenseal contains powerful alkaloids, giving it the distinctive yellow-gold color. Presently, this herb is one of the five top-selling herbal products in the United States.

Organic cultivation of this important plant is necessary to preserve diminishing wild stocks, in short supply from many years of over-harvesting. Our organic Goldenseal is from our certified organic farm and the rhizomes and roots are freshly harvested, dried, milled and promptly encapsulated.

Milk Thistle is known for its antioxidant and liver-cleansing capabilities. Silymarin, the active ingredient, has been shown to restore the powerful antioxidant Glutathione inside the liver which aids in detoxification. Our product contains an optimal amount of Silymarin with the added benefit of a larger dose in one capsule.*

Milk Thistle, Silybum Marianum, is a spiny leaved plant containing reddish-purple flowers. The seeds or fruits naturally consist of four substances known collectively as silymarin, the most potent of the four being called silibin. Milk Thistle is widely used for liver cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic fatty liver, liver poisoning, and viral hepatitis. It has been shown to alleviate symptoms of chronic liver disease such as fatigue, nausea, weakness, pain and loss of appetite, as well as providing long-term benefits such as regeneration of the liver cells. Silymarin plays a role in displacing toxins binding to the liver and causing the cells of the liver to regenerate at a faster rate. No alternative medicine has been found that shows similar functions in the body. Milk thistle is very popular among those taking certain medications known to cause liver damage.*

Carnitine is an amino acid that acts as a vitamin-like compound, responsible for the transport of long-chain fatty acids into energy producing cell units. Carnitine is essential because it is critical in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria. Since the carrier molecule for fatty acids, acyl-CoA, cannot penetrate the cell membrane of the mitochondria without carnitine, a deficiency in carnitine results in decreased fatty acid concentrations in the mitochondria and, as a result, reduced energy production. L-Carnitine is only found in animal food sources such as meat, poultry and dairy products. L-Carnitine can be made in the human body, although premature infants and some adults do not make sufficient amounts. Carnitine is a popular supplement for heart health, liver health, and weight loss.*

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a form of the amino acid cysteine. NAC is used in the body to make glutathione peroxidase - one of the body's most naturally occurring antioxidants. NAC raises glutathione peroxidase levels in the body better than taking glutathione alone. NAC has been shown to provide numerous health benefits to the body, such as promoting heart health, supporting immune function, and helping to protect the body from toxins. The cysteine found in NAC is important for supporting healthy hair and nails. *

N-acetyl cysteine is known to help support more intense detoxification processes such as alcohol poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning, and many others. Talk with a healthcare professional for further information about NAC.*

Nettle is traditionally used for providing relief from allergies, and for use as a nutritive tonic.

As an home herbal remedy, Nettles have a long history of use. A tea made from the leaves has traditionally been used as a tonic.

Our freshly gathered Nettle are promptly freeze-dried to preserve the full spectrum of chemical activity within the herb. The active ingredient in Nettle is unknown, and it may be that it is a combination of ingredients rather than one single compound which may be responsible for its activity.

Due to our high quality control standards we use only organically cultivated plants from an approved site rather than wild-crafted plants as studies show that Nettle absorbs undesirable heavy metals as well as the beneficial minerals from the soil.

Why do we use Freeze-Dried Nettle?

Freeze-dried Nettle is the form that was used in a well-respected study conducted by the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
The dosage used for the research conducted by NCNM is exactly the same as the recommended dosage of OWH Nettles or Aller-Aid.
Our product is dried using the same drying technique that was used in the clinical trial above. The histamine, serotonin and the acetylcholine that is concentrated in the Nettle stinging hairs is lost in air-dried Nettle, but not in freeze-dried Nettle.

Why do we use the whole herb instead of a standardized extract?

The active ingredient in Nettle is unknown, and it may be that it is a combination of ingredients rather than one single compound which may be responsible for its activity.
This is an emerging trend we are seeing among the recent research in many different herbs. There are over 100 constituents that have been isolated from the Nettle plant.

Why do we use organic Nettle instead of wild-crafted?

After monitoring and observing the heavy metal levels we decided that the organically cultivated material was of much higher quality. Nettles are well known for absorbing all minerals from its soil. Unfortunately it also absorbs metals, such as lead, from the soil. In fact, one published study shows the use of Nettles as a biomarker to monitor lead in soil that is known to be contaminated.
Another study illustrates the effect that the growth environment has upon lead levels. They found that Nettle harvested from the mountains was 5x lower in lead than the Nettle harvested from a railway station, and was 7x lower than the plants grown near the side of a highway.
Using this knowledge we made the decision to hand-harvest our Nettles from a local organic farm. This way we can be assured that the quality meets our high standards.

How does the liquid compare to the Freeze-Dried capsule?

The serotonin is known to be destroyed in the liquid extract due to enzyme activity. The liquid extract has many uses but may not be as useful for seasonal allergies.

The Importance of Daily Detoxification
Throughout history primitive cultures, including our Native American ancestors, recognized the health-promoting benefits of natural detoxification. They relied upon the healing power of nature to help cleanse and purify the body and enhance vitality, and many still observe those rituals today. Because a buildup of toxins in the body can lead to weight gain, fatigue, impaired digestion and poor health, regular internal detoxification is an essential part of achieving and maintaining a state of optimum wellness in our increasingly toxic modern world.

Organic Essential Detox is a powerful liquid detox formula made with more than 15 potent organic herbs to help eliminate toxins, increase energy, improve digestion and support overall health. The natural ingredients in Organic Essential Detox, including eight traditionally used Native American herbs, were chosen specifically to provide gentle daily support for the body's seven channels of elimination: the liver, lungs, lymphatic system, kidneys, skin, blood and bowel (or colon).*

Immune Support: Astragalus, Burdock
Kidney & Liver Support: Blessed Thistle, Burdock, Dandelion, Kelp, Milk Thistle, Sheep Sorrel
Digestive & Bowel Support: Blessed Thistle, Ginger, Kelp, Peppermint, Rhubarb, Slippery Elm, Watercress
Blood Lymph Support & Purification: Astragalus, Burdock, Dandelion, Hawthorn berry, Kelp, Red Clover, Watercress

Antioxidants come in a variety of forms and defend against the damaging effects of free radicals. But if you're already getting standard antioxidants in a multivitamin or through food, you may be missing out on other antioxidants difficult to obtain in the diet. Our Advanced Antioxidant Complex offers a combination of science-supported, age-defying and phytonutrient-rich ingredients. This specialty antioxidant complex promotes healthy skin, cardiovascular and cellular health.*

Outward personal appearance and beauty play prominent roles in society, evidenced by billions of dollars spent on personal care products in the U.S. It's well established that a healthy outward appearance starts at the cellular level. About every six weeks the top layer of skin naturally sheds, leading to new skin from underneath. The health of this new layer is reflective of one's everyday eating, drinking, and exercise habits. Environmental pollution and toxins also impact the skin's health. Because women represent a large majority of the health and beauty product target market, and since a recent Council for Responsible Nutrition survey found that females over age 50 constitute the largest portion of dietary supplement consumers, targeting products aimed at their needs improves your ability to meet your consumer's demands. Our Advanced Antioxidant Complex isn't just your average combination antioxidant--it contains specialty antioxidants savvy consumers are trading up for. It's beyond the traditional "A, C, E, Selenium."*

Although it might seem off-putting at first-what with the prickly sting and all-once you've become friends with nettle you've got a friend for life. A tonic, often drunk in the spring when nettle's pokey presence is prevalent, we love nettle's green, hay-like taste nearly as much as we love its ability to support the whole body.*
